20k: Syncro de Mayo: 2013 Volkswagen Golf R
As DT commenter Markiteight pointed, the newer Volkswagen marketing slang for all-wheel-drive is 4Motion, but that won’t stop us from posting yet another Syncro de Mayo special. It is also an opportune time to point out that the concept of Syncro de Mayo was suggested by DT commenter and long time tipper Andy L (thanks bud!). This time it is the spiritual successor to the Golf R32– the Golf R. This one may have a salvage title, but it is offered at a deep discount compared to clean title versions. Find this 2013 Volkswagen Golf R
offered for $22,750 or best offer on ebay, located in Manville, NJ.
The biggest problem with the R32 Golf was that its big V6 up front and all-wheel-drive added a bunch of weight to a car that was already porky. Performance from a stand still for the 3600 lb R32 was barely better than a 2.0T powered GTI. In 2013 when Volkswagen rebooted the all-wheel-drive Golf they chose to use the 2.0T 4-cylinder engine and built a far better hot hatch.
Gone is the sweet sounding VR6 from the R32, in its place is the 2.0T FSI (turbocharged, intercooled and direct injected) 4-banger with upgraded parts borrowed from the Audi TTS and S3, good for 256 horsepower and 243 ft-lbs of torque.
The Golf R also broke tradition by offering a choice of 2 or 4 door (previous R32 models were only available as two door). Similar to the 2004 R32, the R for North America was only offered with 6-speed manual gearbox, no DSG option.

Hmmm. New Jersey and salvage title. Hurricane Sandy?

Looks like it. Look at all that weird dirt in the engine bay. Even the leather on the seats looks weird.

Just for kicks I appraised a 2013 Golf R in average condition with 40K on the clock on Edmunds and it gave me a private party TMV of $23K. Seems like with the branded title and location they should knock 10K off their ask…
That's sexist!
