1998 Porsche Boxster

In 1996 Porsche introduced their first mid-engine street car since the last 914 left the assembly line in 1976.  Styling by Grant Larson was said to evoke the 550 Spyder of yesteryear and the biggest complaint you got from Porsche guys was that it looked too much like the 911…as if that was a bad thing.  The 986 generation Boxster depreciated hard and fast, and today you can pick them up for next to nothing.  Find this 1998 Porsche Boxster offered for $5,995 in Portland, OR via craigslist. You see many Boxster at those small-time indy dealer lots all over the country.  The original owners trade them into the Porsche dealer for a new Boxster GTS4000Whatever and the Porsche lot wholesales them for pocket change…and they end up at Al’s Bait Shop, Used Cars & Clown College in Sheboygan.  Those guys paid some low wholesale price for them and simply want to make their 20% and the prices aren’t that far from the private party — and when these guys lie to you about the condition they are probably commiting some class II misdemeanor.  Anyway, you will enjoy the wail of the 2.5 liter flat-6 pushing 201 horsepower into a 5-speed manual box, and they handle superbly.
