1992 Lada Niva Truck
Utility is on par with strange proportions in this Nova Scotian assembled Lada Niva pickup truck. Although not really a rarity in the global car economy, the Lada Niva pickup is the Fabergé egg of the AutoVAZ offerings here in North America. I know that’s sort of like saying you have a favorite way to get injured or own the best of the Harbor Freight line of jacks, but despite the inherent crappiness, we all want one. Find this 1992 Lada Niva Truck offered for $4,750 CAD ($3,641 USD) in Gatineau, QC, Canada via Kijiji.ca. This
post is part of DT’s 2016 Birthday Celebration of 100 cars;
enjoy the ride!
The mechanical bits in the Nivas were robust as hell and very advanced when they came out. The problem is, time does keep moving I’m told and before you know it, people aren’t raving about overhead cams and coil springs anymore.
A quick anecdote: at the age of 18, a friend and I once drove from Raleigh, NC to Montreal to go scout out and import absolutely anything Lada. The plan was to buy the best one we test drove – a 1995 Niva ‘Bandito’ edition – and drive it across and unmanned border crossing in rural Quebec to dodge the 25 year rule. Thank god we got distracted by a big night on Rue University and become too hungover to plot federal offenses.
