1920 Chevrolet C-Cab Ice Truck

A very old man once told me that the right way to fix a broken spoke on a car with wooden wheels was to cut the spoke out, hammer a new section in, then let it sit in a river for a week. I’m not sure whether to believe that guy; I tried to buy a Ranchero from him on craigslist and he had at least 3 C4’s and a collection of third world tractors. But it was a good story and it made wooden car features seem like a total pain in the hammered thumbs. Does anyone know what an Ice Truck is for? I don’t, but I would guess that it served as the method of transportation between railyard and end ice consumer. I envision that people used to pay a half-cent per hour to sit on a gigantic sawdust encrusted ice block and ride around town in the summer. Or maybe I’m way off base here.
