15k: Wheeler Dealered: 1975 AMC Pacer

I’ve always enjoyed watching episodes of the show Wheeler Dealers, and have thought that buying one of their cars would be a great experience.  Mike and Edd always seem to do a decent job fixing issues, and their profit is extremely slim, especially once you factor in the hundreds of hours of Edd’s time. As luck would have it, one of the Wheeler Dealer cars is currently up for auction (and available for in person inspection in Huntington Beach, CA today from 10am-1pm).  Find this 1975 AMC Pacer currently bidding here on eBay for $7,600 with less than one day to go, and simultaneously here on eBay for $16,000 buy-it-now.

Wheeler Dealers early shows (the UK filmed/produced seasons) focused on modern classics picked up for cheap and given minor cosmetic restoration before being sold for a few hundred quid profit.  Edd “long sleeve undershirt” Chiner would spend days slaving away under the car to give Mad Mike Brewer the chance to make a few pound sterling.  Thankfully the show subsidizes their car activities, because many for profit flippers aren’t as conscientious, honest or heartwarmingly British.

“Edd, it seems you’ve put on a few stone eating at those Vegas buffets…”  “Nope, it’s just this moon jacket, and you don’t exactly look like Taylor Swift yourself”.

With the transition to US filming for the upcoming season (it seems the show is featured on the Velocity channel and they have a Huntington Beach studio), it seems the show has focused more on modifying the cars instead of simple restoration and the result is what you see here.

This Pacer has been fixed up, had its bumpers drawn in closer to the body, sees with aftermarket HID headlamps, is wearing Pontiac Firebird rims and is covered in a reflective 3M vinyl wrap.  It looks out of this world and ready for cruising down the Vegas Reno strip.

Is this the real life?  Is this just fantasy?
