15k: Guards Red Snapper: 1979 Porsche 911 SC

The posting earlier this week on a salvage title E30 M3 elicited some revulsion from one of our regular commenters, slowcarSLOW-MPGlol,  who wrote

“For $15,000, you could get: 911SC, E39 M5 (2x cylinders, 2x hp, 2x doors)  1994 Viper RT-10..” 

This statement was soon rebuffed by an anonymous commenter who we will call Julie for expediency’s sake — Julie quipped

“Find me a 911SC for $15,000 and I’ll show you a car that needs $15,000 in work to get into reliable driver condition.” 

SlowcarSLOW-MPGlol responded by posting this gorgeous guards red 1979 Porsche 911 SC for sale in Wichita, KS currently bidding on ebay for $12,800 reserve-not-met with a few days to go.  Tips from slowcarSLOW-MPGlol

Julie responded quite graciously with the following well thought out comment:

“Ha ha all that needed was a “challenge accepted” pic.…

Barn find, 7k miles since
1989. I’m wary of that, but overall a really nice looking car. Valve
covers (or whatever the source of that oil is) will need to be addressed
soon, but I’ve seen plenty worse on cars that go for twice as much.
I’ll keep an eye on this auction ($12k reserve not met, 4 days left) and
if it stays under $20k, someone got a phenomenal deal.”

(Editors note: I just love it when the commenters basically write these features…)

The 3.0 liter flat-6 shoved into the back is good for 180 horsepower and will get the 2600 lb red over-steer snapper from 0-60mph in about 6.5 seconds.  Numbers aside, there is nothing quite like the cacophonous racket of a wide-open throttle Porsche aircooled flat-6 echoing in the lightly insulated 911 greenhouse.
