15k: Almost Finished: 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback Restomod
The 1968 Mustang is the last of the early Mustangs, visually very similar to the ’67 model and essentially the product of the first minor re-boot of the Mustang styling. The ’67-68 Fastbacks are a favorite of restomodders and sometimes get the
hideous movie inspired “Eleanor” treatment, but today’s feature has been kept cosmetically tame with only performance gains. Find this 1968 Ford Mustang fastback restomod for sale in Columbia, MD currently bidding on ebay for $15,100 with a few hours to go.
This fastback was originally equipped with a 289 cubic inch V8 making 195 horsepower – probably a few more since a recent rebuild and addition of intake/exhaust parts. The original automatic transmission was replaced with a Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox and the seller describes it as “mostly complete.” The current bidding price seems reasonable for such a classic and the addition of disc brakes and some suspension work would really bring this car together.
The gold scallop on the fake side scoop looks good over the deep red paint – it’s different, and hey, at least this isn’t another Shelby GT 500 clone.

That gold stripe is referred to as a C-Stripe and was on most '68's.
Thanks for clearing that up. I'm the one who added that last sentence and I'm definitely *not* the resident Mustang expert at DT! That C-Stripe probably looks "different" to me now since just about every '67-'68 fastback was painted silver with twin black racing stripes in about 2002.
'hideous movie inspired "Eleanor" treatment'. Hear, hear.
Ended up sold for $19,600 with some heavy bidding action in the last couple of hours.
