110 Horsepowerglide: 1968 Chevrolet Corvair Monza

This next car looks to be a good example of the Corvair and is the top of the line Monza trim version…but like the Porsche 912, it is severely lacking in the powertrain part of the equation…because it is a base 110 horsepower flat-6 mated to a two-speed powerglide slushbox. Find this 1968 Chevrolet Corvair Monza offered for $8950 in Grover Beach, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Beautiful 1968 Corvair Monza 110hp, powerglide automatic in excellent condition.

I bought this lovely blue Corvair in 2015 in its present restored condition from Shade’s Classic Cars in Hastings, NE. The car is beautiful and clean inside and out. And it runs as well as it looks with all systems working as they should. The car starts, idles, shifts, drives and brakes with no issues.

The body is extremely clean and nearly rust free with only a small amount of rust showing on the left side of the engine opening under the rubber seal (see photo). Underside is clean and floors are solid.

Interior features custom cloth upholstery, center console with padded armrest and a stock pushbutton AM radio that works. The clock is not working.

Other features are dual mufflers, luggage rack and rear-mounted antenna.

Odometer shows 86,251 miles – actual miles unknown.

Since purchasing, the following items have been installed:

• New battery

• New Maxxis 185/80-R13 tires

• New fuel tank

• New fuel pump
