10k: Syncro de Mayo: 1990 Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) Syncro Doka
Welcome to Daily Turismo’s Syncro de Mayo, our May 5th celebration of all Volkswagen’s four wheel drive system known as Syncro. Up first is a fantastic combination of VW’s Syncro system in a factory El Caminoized double cab (Doka, which comes from the German word for double cab– Doppelkabine) Volkswagen Type 2 (T3). Find this 1990 Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) Syncro Doka offered for $10,000 in Saginaw, MI via craigslist. Tip from Andy L.
The seller indicates that this is Doka is now powered by a Subaru powerplant (probably a flat-4 from a Legacy) and the original Wasserboxer engine is long gone. The diamond plate bumper, sun visor, truck exhaust and bed rails are home-made pieces.
It is unfortunate that the original folding truck bed sides are gone but finding a Sycro Doka in any shape is a rare treat. See another Syncro for less? tips@dailyturismo.com
The asking price certainly speaks to the following these have. Before seeing these go for 30k and more (!) I would have thought this was a 2k car, tops. Growing up, my folks had 3 vanagons, all manual 4 speeds. My dad taught me how to drive stick by taking me to the steepest hill he could find in Mission Viejo and making me stop, accelerate, stop, accelerate over and over again without stalling or slipping the clutch (too much.) I do not currently own a Vanagon.
$8000 for a diesel in Sweden. "Shipping to Baltimore only $2750"

"The diamond plate bumper, sun visor, truck exhaust and bed rails are home-made pieces."
That's impossible. These are clearly all factory items.
Looks like it had been customized for a cameo in the movie "Maximum Overdrive".
I think I'd have to find the folding sides as these just do not look right without them.. I can't pinpoint why but this just doesn't look right at all!!
