10k: Low Miles: 1993 Toyota MR2
The Toyota MR2 was about as close as you could get to a Japanese super car before the launch of Honda’s NSX, particularly in its Ferrari look-alike second generation. Even in non-turbo form it its well composed and balanced mid-engine setup allows for fantastic at the limit handling. Find this 1993 Toyota MR2 non-turbo offered for $8,500 in Horsham, PA via craigslist. Tip from David.
The second generation MR2 was sold in the USA from 1991 through 1995 with two choices of inline-4 cylinder engines. The hot one to get was the turbocharged 2.0L 3S-GTE, but today’s low mile example is powered by the non-turbo 2.2L 5S-FE. The 5S-FE puts out 135 horsepower into a 5-speed manual gearbox and will push the 2590 lb 2-seater around with decent gusto.
Wow, it is snowing in Pennsylvania in August? tips@dailyturismo.com
These cars were/are a blast to drive. Corners well, revs right up…and as reliable as the Camry parts bin it borrowed from. That is an original interior based on the photos. Radio correct, shifter correct, as are the seats and door panels. AC blows ice cubes. And, the T-top is a snap to use. You can even take the roof panels off while seated and stopped at traffic lights. If you are a speed demon…this car will take a 3.3 alum V6 from the Camry/ESLexus. Kind of like an LSx swap, cheap and effective way to get power to the rear wheels.
Hey the geese are starting to fly south in this part of Pennsylvania the last two weeks so maybe snow is not that far off:)

2000GT, Supra Turbo, 300ZX Turbo, Starion ESi-R? Or by supercar are you just referring to the mid-engine layout?
It is a fact that Supercars and everything else super comes with the engine in the middle. Knowing his thing for Lois Lane, does anyone really think that Superman thought with his head?
Love the superman reference, not sure about the logic. By this logic, the Fiat X1/9 was close to a supercar. Also, the Porsche 911 GT2, Mercedes SLS Black Edition, and Ferrari 599 GTO aren't.
Those front engined machines would be "hyper cars". Way too much going on in the head to think about anything other than how fast it can get there. The Porsche thinks with its Booty. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course.
waitafreakingminute——then DT goes and does their "Supercar for a CEO" post and what's their choice? A front engined Ferrari 612. My head is hurting.
