10k: Happy Thorsgiving: 2006 Volvo V70R Wagon 6spd
A Thorsgiving celebration would not be complete without the traditional razing of a barn, a game of moose pucky football and most importantly, the revering of turbocharged manual transmission wagons. Many of the turbo bricks you will find on these pages are the product of madmen, blow torches and amphetamine haze, but this one is pure stock Volvo goodness. Find this 2006 Volvo V70 R Wagon 6spd for sale in North Brookfield, MA for $11,995 buy-it-now on ebay.
As someone who has hooned on a V70R with a full contingent of passengers I can attest that the R is a quick ride, but in a muted and sterile manner. The V70R lacks the moose-kick-in-the-back feeling of an STi or Evo, and digs out of the corners more like an S4 or something with a big naturally aspirated V6.
Power is provided by a 2.5 liter inline-5 that makes a noise like a broken refrigerator pump when pushed to its 296 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs of torque limit. I can’t help but think that the V70R would be much more fun to drive if given an aftermarket tune and a snorty exhaust.
A peek inside shows a nice modern interior from Sweden, with big blue gauges and “the anti-gate” spherical shifter surround that are unique to the R model. The seats are a bit flat and non-sporty but are comfortable enough for long drives.

~ a very nice turkey day treat. the stick shift makes it somewhat unusual in the US. i've only seen a couple manual transmission V70 series cars, but if i were shopping this is one i'd be interested in buying.
Done-ski.
Make sure the bevel gear is good, an expensive and common problem on these otherwise awesome cars.
Seems like strong $ for the mileage. I owned an 04 V70 R with manual trans. Great car, but not without flaws. It had the largest turning radius next to the Queen Mary, just awful to park in tight spaces. Although the leather was touted as special Bridge of Weir material it wore rather poorly. I had the special Atacama (baseball glove) leather and, though soft, was beginning to wear at the driver's bolster inside of 20K miles. And yes, the bevel gear issues are legendary. Also, the shifter in my 2002tii is a thousand times more fun to use than the R wagon shifter. The R's was notchy and balky, not at all smooth with stiff clutch takeup. I was glad when I sold it. Not a lot of fun.
