10k: Green Bean: 1972 Mazda RX-3

Yesterday’s sad Cosmo got me thinkin – there has got to be a better example of a Cosmo for sale around the web..and…well…there wasn’t.  However, there is a decent supply to Mazda RX-3’s around, which were called the Mazda Grand Familia in Japan and sometimes people mistakenly describe them as a Cosmo.  Find this 1972 Mazda RX-3 currently bidding for $12,000 with a few hours left to go on ebay, located in Lewisville, TX.

This Mazda RX-3 is offered for as a one family (current seller’s grandmother bought it new in 1972) and was repainted once in 1993.  There are some rust issues around (it is a 70s Mazda after all…) and it isn’t perfect, probably a 10 footer paint job.

Under the hood is a Mazda 12A rotary engine that was originally rated for 110 horsepower and 100 ft-lbs of torque — probably a few more with the street porting job and bolt on aftermarket parts.  The seller will include a new in box 12A engine as a spare, along with a box of other parts.

The inside of this RX-3 looks in decent shape, mostly original parts (shifter notwithstanding), but it isn’t a perfect example.
