10k Flash: 1987 Ford Mustang 5.0
The 3rd generation Ford Mustang was built on the legendary Fox platform and featured the equally legendary Ford 5.0 V8 from 1979-1993. A stock Fox body Mustang isn’t a particularly fast car, slower in fact than similar-era 4 cylinder front wheel drive cars from Honda, for instance, but in mint condition they can be fun to drive and are starting to get old/retro enough to be ‘cool’. This 1987 Ford Mustang 5.0 is offered in Apache Junction, AZ via ebay, currently bidding for $10,500 with less than 1 day to go.
This car is being offered as a low mile (34k on the odo) ‘survivor’ car – it has original paint, original spark plug wires, original exhaust and zero resprays or door dings. It is 100% stock and looks like it just came off the showroom floor in 1987.
This Mustang is powered by the 5.0 HO V8 – making 225 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque – mated to a Borg-Warner T-5 manual transmission it should make for a decent amount of fun.
This Mustang is equipped with a set of cloth seats and interior in a sand/beige color which today looks quite dated, but would be cool as long as it doesn’t get too dirty.
Bottom line: This Mustang looks to be about the perfect Fox Mustang, has low miles, clean inside and out – but is the price getting into high for a 5.0, any 5.0?

In High School (I graduated in 1990) this was -the- car to have, seconded only by a Camaro, thirded by that Beretta thing. I, of course, being of poor stock couldn't afford one (my first car was a hand-me-down 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix in black from my dad). I couldn't stand it, mainly because we lived in the mountains of N.GA and it couldn't handle curves for shit. Stupidly I thought that a yellow 1979 Mercuri Capri (that I bought from a buy-here-pay-here lot) would fool the girls enough into wanting to be seen cruising in my car. It didn't.
However, in the end, I won. I've travelled the world, done a lot of cool shit, and live on Coronado Island in San Diego now. Most of the people who had the Mustangs and Camaros still have them, in much worse shape than this one, and still live in the same place, working at "the wal-marts". I guarantee if I took this car back to my hometown the welfare queens with 6 kids and a love of Jeebus would be throwing themselves at me. If I drove the 2002 BMW just below this someone would throw a bottle at me and call me the British term for a cigarette.
