10k: Cool Italian: 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta (tipo 116) was built from 1972 to 1987 as a sedan and cool looking fastback coupe.  The Alfetta still lives in a no-man’s-land between worn out new car and rising classic, but this one falls closer to the classic in condition.  Find this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT for sale in Wethersfield, CT for $9,500 via craigslist.  Tip from BigEgyptian.

The Alfetta GT is offered with 22k miles on the odometer and what looks like great condition.  Alfas of this vintage are highly susceptible to rust and require constant fiddling to keep in running condition, but owners say the juice is worth the squeeze.

The 2.0 liter inline-4 cylinder DOHC engine puts 150 horsepower into the rear-mounted 5-spd transaxle.  Unfortunately this means the driveshaft runs at engine speeds and requires constant re-balancing and replacement of carrier bearings.

The inside of the Alfetta is filled with the right stuff for fine motoring, a thick wooden steering wheel, bucket seats and a 5-speed manual gearbox.  The expectation is that everything would work on a car with 22k miles on the odometer…but…this is an Italian car…so…maybe 1/2 the gauges & switches work?

Perhaps you feel that $9,500 price tag is a bit lofty…you could buy this 1979 Alfetta for $4,500, oddly enough also located in Wethersfield, CT via craigslist.  See another set of brothers in a same city? tips@dailyturismo.com
