10k: California Cruiser: 1967 Ford Galaxie Convertible, 428CJ 4-Spd

The Ford Galaxie was a full sized sedan from Detroit – and by 1967 could be powered by the 428 big-block V8.  It won’t turn or stop well, but it will do impressive burnouts and looks great with a drop top.  Find this 1967 Ford Galaxie Convertible with 428 CJ and 4-spd manual in Palm Springs, CA for $9500 via craigslist.

If you are going to get a Galaxie – this is certainly the right one. It has a huge 7.0 liter V8, a 4 speed manual transmission and what looks like a nice coat of blue paint…unfortunately it’s a bit of a project and needs some assembly before you can cruise to the beach cities in comfort.

This Galaxie is powered by a 7.0 liter V8 – that puts out 345 gross horsepower and enough torque to pull stumps and ruin tires.  This V8 will need some work before it can move the beast but, but once it can send power to the 4 speed manual transmission it should be quite fun for a 4000 lb 1960s body-on-frame convertible.

The interior also needs some sorting, but there seems to be a number of extra parts haphazardly strewn throughout the cabin. Have fun sorting them out!

The seller states that this is a $6k paint job and it looks nice in the photographs, but you can get a top of the line $6k paint job from One-Day paint or a bottom of the line $6k job from a high end paint shop…and they won’t be the same. Regardless, with some sorting this Galaxie could be a great weekend cruiser and worth quite a bit more than the current asking price.
