10k: 1968 Chrysler Newport; Vintage & Minty Clean
The C platform underpinned many Chrysler Corp. full sized sedans, including the New Yorker, 300, Dodge Polara, Plymouth Fury and the subject of today’s post – the Chrysler Newport. This 1968 Chrysler Newport is in fantastic condition and is currently bidding for $5,600 reserve-not-met on ebay in Fort Meyers, FL.
The Newport is a full sized 2-door sedan and looks every bit of 1968 on the outside. From the avocado green paint, dark green vinyl top, to the period correct 14 inch chrysler wheels/hub caps with black wall tires. We think that the look is perfect and wouldn’t change a thing! Please keep your airbags and 22 inch wheels away from this beauty!
This Newport is powered by a 6.3 liter V8, a short stroke “B” engine, branded as the Magnum in Chrysler/Dodge applications. The Magnum put out 290 horsepower and 380 ft-lbs of torque mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission – performance won’t be incredible, but it should be able to keep up with modern traffic easily.
Inside this Newport looks extremely clean for its age/condition and we think the story from the current seller (FERRARIBUYERONLINE) could possibly be true…but we’ve learn to not believe much that comes from the mouths of car salesman or worse – amateur ebay flippers.
Perhaps this is a case of nice pictures taken of a mint car – but we really love the way this car looks and certainly would consider owning one for a weekend cruiser. We wonder where the reserve is set on this car and are curious about the collectability of a Newport. We assume that any car from 1968 in this kind of immaculate condition will be salable, but at what price? We’ll wait and see where this one falls and it would surprise us if it goes much above $12k.

Not a hint of pleasure driving this well preserved but self destructing piece of iron. Rudders have more steering accuracy.
Ha!
If you're going to continue making witty comments, you should start using another screen name. "The commenter of the week is anonymous" will sound a little strange.
DT is getting pretty random this week. The last 4 features:
– 2004 Cadillac CTS-V
– 1974 Lotus Europa
– 1968 Chrysler Newport
– 1989 Dodge Shelby Dakota Pick-Up
Of course, these were preceded by 200 rusting junkers heading to a Canadian crusher…
Larry, e-mail them a car you find interesting and maybe they will post it.
Honestly, I don't have any issues with the selection presented. I was just commenting on the "variety" this week so far. I sincerely wish I had time to peruse the classifieds for more interesting cars…
That was my comment about the steering in this tub. My family were Chrysler fans without any real justification, at least in this catagory. Exterior parts came off without provocation, leaks abounded, HVAC controls self destructed like an IMF tape recording. A low point in American automobile craftsmanship.
~ my dad owned a huge FuryIII, similar beneath the skin. 12 mpg downhill with a tail wind.
