Retro design is really hit or miss. For each new MINI there is a PT Cruiser and Chevy HHR. On two wheels the retro bikes from Honda, the GB500 and from Kawasaki, the WS650 were sales duds, but the Triumph nouveau-cafe racer, the Thruxton was a hit. Find this 2014 Triumph Thruxton for sale in Newcastle, WA for $7,500 via craigslist.
The Triumph Thruxton made its debut as the Thruxton 900 in 2004. It is a derivative of the new Bonneville and thus shares much. The engine is a tweaked version of the Bonneville’s air-coooled twin mill, but with slightly larger pistons, it displaced near the 900cc mark, giving you 70hp to play with. This bike is now 3 years old and has been superseded in 2016 by the 1200cc Thruxtons. But, this one only has a little over 2,500 miles on it, so it’s nearly new.
The seller says they are selling to pay off their student loan. I’m not sure I would publicize that in an ad. Craigslist seems to bring out the worst in people, and that would be an open invitation to those that think they can low ball someone in a “desperate” situation. I always wonder, do they go around bragging to their friends how they swindled little old ladies out of their property deeds…
The bike is said to have recently received an inspection at the dealer and best of all is all stock – which is a rarity – no billet gingerbread do-dads here.
