The Mazda Capella (as it was known in Japan) was badged as the Mazda 616 or 618 for export, but once you selected the rotary engine they slapped on an RX-2 badge and threw an extra case of motor oil in the trunk. The RX-2 was one of the first cars available for sale in the US with rotary power and isn’t seen on the road often today. Find this 1973 Mazda RX2 Sedan offered for an undisclosed price in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.
This listing kicks off another episode of The Big List of Things We Love About Craigslist — starting with the lousy portrait oriented photos, continuing with it just needs x,y & z and it’ll be a really nice car and completing the trifecta with “make me an offer I know what these cars are really worth.” The fact that the Mazda rocker stripe appears in one picture but not the other doesn’t even make a top ten of awesome in this advert!!
Under the hood is a Mazda 12A rotary engine fed via a set of Weber downdraft carbs that is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.Oh look, some blue hoses.
