The first generation Chevrolet Chevelle was based on GM’s A-body
platform and the wagon version is one of my favorites from the A-body. The Chevelle Malibu wagon lacks the crazy vista-roof that is available in the Buick Sportwagon version, but in my book, clean styling trumps questionable additions that leak when it rains and sunburns your kids when it is sunny. Find this 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Wagon here on eBay currently bidding for $17,100 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go located in New Jersey.
This particular car is no ordinary used/abused wagon for sale — it is a virtual time capsule that has only seen 15,000 miles in the past 49 years and has spent most of its life safely indoors. It is offered in original/unrestored condition and was sold for around $2800 in 1965 with a 6 cylinder engine, 3 speed transmission, manual radio, full wheel covers and the comfort & convenience group.
Under the hood is a 230 cubic inch “turbo-thrift” inline-6 that pushes 140 horsepower into a 3-speed manual gearbox mated to an open differential out back. This is the ultimate grandpa car and as much as I would love to swap an LS1 into the front, it makes sense just to keep this one as is. Drive it slowly, carefully and enjoy the minty freshness. Think of this not as a car, but as a moving museum.
The interior is also practically flawless, and it has some sweet vintage plastic seat covers that will stick to your bare thighs on a hot summer day, but keep the seats free from distress.
