15k: Classy Turbo: 1985 BMW Alpina B7 Turbo E28

Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH is a Bavarian based tuner that has worked closely with BMW for decades, even selling its tuned cars from BMW dealers complete with intact factory warranty, similar to the arrangement Saleen has (had?) with Ford.  The Alpinas add considerable performance to BMW’s already quick automobiles and add considerable cost to the sticker price – but used they aren’t a bad deal for the added rarity and speed.  Find this 1985 BMW Alpina B7 Turbo for sale in Burbank, CA currently bidding for $15,100 reserve-not-met on ebay with 4 days to go. (bidding is up to $25k with a few hours to go)  Tip from Rod S.

The Alpina package added a turbocharger to the 3.5 liter BMW inline-6 and upped power to a tire shredding 300 horsepower and 370 ft-lbs of torque.  It was supercar fast for 1984 and likely surprised a few Ferrari/Lambo drivers back in the day.  As an owner today, most of the time you’ll be worrying about breaking something powertrain related or Alpina specific as replacement parts will be expensive.
