Where on earth are you paying $5k for a cage? Last race car I built, it cost $1500 for a cage including certification, and that was much nicer, better thought through, and more tidily build than the cage in this Fiat.

Ummm…Handsome Huberts House of OverPriced Cages? In truth the last cage I had put into a 24Hrs of LeMons car 2 years ago cost about $3k IIRC, and I assume the requirements for a World Challenge car would be more stringent. If you build/install it yourself, it'll certainly be cheaper, but perhaps $5k is a bit much. What about $5k for cage, seats, harness & netting?

i remember a guy once telling me the cheapest way to get into real racing was with a completely stock version of the most basic cheapo new car on the market and race against all the same model – which at that time was a renault alliance – and i'm like, whaaaat?

    We've said it before, we'll say it again: Don't build a racecar—BUY a racecar.
