The Porsche 944 was a mid market sports coupe from the makers of the 911 and was sold from 1982-1991. Equipped with a 50:50 weight distribution and Porsche engineering chassis/suspension means that it’s always been lauded for its fantastic handling, but saddled with a number of boat anchor inline 4 cylinder engines and even the turbo is a bit of a dog. However, the seller of this 1986 Porsche 944 has swapped in an LS1 V8 into the front and turned it into a racecar and is selling it on ebay, (along with a trailer) currently bidding at $7,100 reserve-not-met with 1 day to go.
This Porsche has been transformed into a pure track car, no mention of registration or the ability to drive this car on the street. It’s been gutted and had a roll cage added so you won’t take your mother-in-law for a drive either.
This 944 is powered with a Chevy LS1 engine probably making 400 hp and mated to the stock Turbo S transaxle. The LSX series of engines are extremely tunable and a simple cam, head swap and tune could net another 100 bhp to the output.
Inside this car has been fully prepared for racing complete with Recaro seat, aftermarket steering wheel and full cage. The suspension is also fully adjustable and brakes were upgraded to 993 TwinTurbo brakes.
This car also comes with an enclosed 2005 hallmark trailer with new tires. Overall it looks to be a good deal at the current bidding but we don’t think it will meet the buy it now price and hope that the reserve is set low. Most likely this auction will fail and the car will get relisted with hopefully a more realistic reserve price.
